The exhibition 'Caravaggio: the truth of light’
The exhibition-event arrives in Catania “Caravaggio: the truth of light". From June 1st to 6 October Michelangelo Merisi, said Caravaggio, will be an exceptional protagonist in the city with thirty-six works, four of which are autographed, which will be placed in the new municipal art gallery of the former Monastery of Santa Chiara. The municipal administration will open to public use, with this exhibition, the Art Gallery of the former Santa Chiara Monastery, in via Castello Ursino 10, after the architectural recovery of the spaces that for a long time housed the registry offices.
“Caravaggio: the truth of light", with scientific project curated by Luigi Ficacci and Pierluigi Carofano, wants to bring a contribution of knowledge to a fundamental period of European art, from the end of the sixteenth century to the first half of the seventeenth century, intertwining with what is commonly defined as the Baroque age. The exhibition will allow a journey into the artistic world, full of lights and shadows, of Caravaggio than in his brief, but tormented life, he also spent an intense period in Sicily. And for some paintings it is a return to the island, after the exhibition tour that, left Basel, arrives in Catania and will continue in Seoul in the autumn.
